5 Goals for 2017

So looking back on my 2016 goals post, I didn't do too badly. I may not have saved money or started my uni work early but I certainly have done more with my spare time, I've tried (sort of) to blog more and I'm definitely a whole lot happier than I was this time last year. So 2017 is a pretty big year for me so I guess it's only fair to set myself some goals.

1. Save Money (srsly though this time) I didn't manage it in 2016 but I have some pretty big plans for the new year so saving is a definite must if I want to achieve my bigger plan.

2. Have a Wicked 21st I turn 21 in March and I don't usually make a big deal out of my birthday but this year I'm planning an ultimate night out and trying to fit in everything that I want to do. It's in the midst of my busiest uni month but one weekend wont hurt, right?

3. Get a high 2:1/First in my Degree. It's my final year of uni and I'm working my butt off to try and get the best degree I possibly can.

4. Make a plan for after uni and achieve it. I have an idea of what I want to do when I finish uni but I haven't made a solid plan but when I do I intend to stick to it and see it through.

5. Have a good time. Yes it's my final year of university. Yes it's the year I need to decide what I want to spend my life doing and become an adult free from education but at the end of the day life is too short to spend the whole time worrying about and I need to make sure I stay happy.

Here's to a new, important and pretty damn scary year.

What are your goals for 2017?

Comfy Boxing Day Outfit

Primark Faux Leather Jacket (similar) and Leopard Print Scarf // H&M Jumpsuit // M&S Bag (sold out) // Topshop top worn under jumpsuit

Boxing day is always a lazy day for me so I was delighted to received this super comfy jumpsuit for Christmas as it is perfect for lounging around and perfect for cradling that food baby. I popped to the shop (nothing too extravagant today) so I threw on my leather jacket, scarf and fringed bag all of which I got for Christmas too.

Did you all have a nice Christmas? What did you all get?

It's Christmas Eve

Miss Selfridge Leather Jacket (similar)  // Glamorous Turtleneck Dress // Deichmann Boots (similar)

What's this? Outside pictures on a decent camera ft. a never before seen leather jacket and boots that aren't DMs or pointed? Yup I'm at home, wearing my sister's clothes and using her camera. I don't think I've ever featured this dress on my blog, despite having had it for ages. It's super warm and perfect for the winter and a nice change to wearing all black! It's also pretty cheap, at £20 which for a decent quality dress it fairly reasonable!

I'm going to spend the next few days stuffing my face with pigs in blankets, sausage rolls and mince pies. Have an awesome Christmas! What are you all up to?

Top 5 Albums of 2016

I've spent a lot of 2016 listening to my old favourites but there have been a few new albums that I have loved so why not share them with you. I've also popped them all in a spotify playlist to make it easier for you.

Slow Club - One Day All of This Wont Matter Anymore I have loved Slow Club for ages and their new album certainly did not disappoint and they are awesome live too. Best Track: In Waves

1975 - I Like it When You Sleep for you are so Beautiful yet so Unaware of it.
The second album from the northern group and, though it's a bit different to their first, it's so damn good, Best Track: Paris

Biffy Clyro - Ellipsis This is an album that I heard a lot when I was at work and, as with most Biffy albums, it's pretty awesome and catchy. Best Track: Animal Style

Blossoms - Blossoms I saw Blossoms at Boardmasters and they were amazing and then we had the album on a lot at work and I fell in love. They're an indie band with super catchy songs and a distinct style. Best Track: My Favourite Room

Glass Animals - How to be a Human Being Glass Animals are so chilled and I can't think of another band to compare them to but if you're into chilled indie music then they're for you. Best Track: Youth

What albums have you enjoyed this year?

Cheap Frills

Primark Shirt // Topshop Skirt // H&M Boots

I've been eyeing up this shirt since I first saw it in Primark and have refrained from buying it. However I went in the other day and there it was reduced to half price. It had some make up stains on it, which is probably the reason these frills were cheap. However they have come out in the wash so it's not really a big deal. I think it will look great with just about everything but for today I'm wearing it with my topshop mini skirt and some pointed boots. The frills add some interesting detail to the outfit which otherwise may have been a tad plain. I definitely want to invest in more frills. Frills frills all round.

Are you loving the frills trend at the moment?

Cord & Nude

Pink Topshop Top (similar)  // Brown Cord Primark Skirt // Primark Velvet Choker

I've definitely shown this skirt and few times on my blog before but I've never featured this nude, slightly ribbed crop top from Topshop. When I say it's cropped, it is pretty short so if, like me you don't always like to show your midriff, you might want to opt for very highwaisted bottoms or keep your arms down because you will show your bra. I'm really into the brown and pink colour combination and it's something different to sticking to black all the time.

Grey Zara Knit

Zara Knit // Primark Super Cosy Tights // Doc Martens Shoes

I didn't realise that it had been a month since I had last last posted and now I'm really annoyed at myself. I've had a deadline every week for 3 weeks and it has killed me. Anyway I found some time to snap some photos. This is by far my favourite jumper that I own so I am surprised that I've never featured it on here before. It's so warm and comfy - the perfect staple for winter and so easy just to throw on. I had to put on a little black bodycon skirt underneath just to avoid flashing my butt you everyone cos y'all don't wanna see that.

Brantano Calls for Unworn Shoes for Charity

I've got something a bit different for you guys today and something to get you into the spirit of giving in the run up to Christmas.

Shoe retailer Brantano, located at Filton Abbey Wood in Bristol, will be pulling its socks up and donating shoes to charity throughout November as it launches its latest campaign.

With an estimated 20,000 tonnes of wearable footwear discarded in the UK each year, Brantano is calling on (town) people to hand in their old shoes, no matter how loved they once were, if they’re no longer worn regularly and they will in turn be donated to Clothes Aid.

The Shoe Swap campaign launched this week, and all donated footwear will be sold in European markets through the Clothes Aid, with proceeds going towards a number of UK charities.

Karen Staton, manager of Brantano in Bristol, said: “We know many people cling on to shoes which no longer see the light of day, but we’re calling on everyone to hand these in to us for this great initiative and raise money for charity in the meantime. So free some space on the shoe rack because those who donate their old shoes can even save themselves money on a new pair with us.”

Michael Lomotey, Business Manager at Clothes Aid said: “Unwanted shoes take up space in cupboards and hallways up and down the country, and we’re asking people to ‘step up’ and donate them.”
“People may have fallen out of love with some of their shoes, but through Clothes Aid, they can become treasured once again by somebody else and this will help us raise vital funds for UK charities.”

Anyone who donates shoes to their local Brantano store will receive £10 off a £20 in-store purchase.

Brantano’s Bristol store offers a free fitting service, with staff trained by top brands such as Clarks, Start Rite and Hush Puppies. With late opening hours at conveniently located stores, a hassle free expert fitting service and a wide range of shoes to suit all budgets, Brantano aims to make shoe shopping as easy and convenient as possible.

For more information, visit www.brantano.co.uk

I think this is a great way to get into the spirit of giving for Christmas as well as giving you an opportunity to have a bit of a declutter and get rid of unwanted shoes.

5 goals for the rest of 2016

source
So the year is coming to a close and I need to get my act together and why wait for the new year? We all know if you put it off until the whole 'new year, new me' you just know it aint gonna happen so start now. Pre-new year's resolutions. Why not end the year feeling like you've actually accomplished something?

  1. Don't buy any more clothes This will be hard for me but I have a full wardrobe of stuff I don't need or wear so I just need to stop. I have a winter wardrobe that is pretty damn good so lets leave it at that. If I do need something I will have to weigh up whether it is truly necessary.
  2. Spend your money wisely This relates to the top one but I'm always buying stuff I don't need like food I wont end up eating or not buying stuff to make lunch and having to buy food in uni shops. Sort yaself out yeah?
  3. Save some money I don't mean just cut back I mean actually start saving for reals.
  4. Work Hard I have loads of uni stuff to do and a big deadline in January so I need to just spend all of my time in the library (away from the shops) and work my butt off,
  5. Enjoy Yourself What are my goal posts without a 'be happy' point? While it's all good and well saying do this, do that, you gotta make sure you're happy. If it feels like too much, and I mean if you're stressed not just being a lazy ass, then take a break. Make sure you still have fun.

Do you think it's worth making goals for the rest of the year?

Black Velvet

Primark black velvet top // Topshop denim skirt // H&M pointed boots

Halloween may be over but I can't help wearing all black for the rest of eternity. If you're a long time reader of my blog then (congrats) you'll know my mega love for all things velvet and I recently added this top to my collection. I've seen velvet everywhere at the moment so I think it will be quite big for a gothic vibe for this winter and it keeps you pretty warm too. It's a great way to add texture to a simple all black look. Who said all black can't be interesting?

Everything You Need to Know About Getting Your Septum Pierced

About 9 weeks ago now, I got my septum pierced. I've always wanted to get it done so I thought that now would be a good chance to get it (I'd also made a drunken promise to my boyfriend that we'd get piercings on the same day). After scouting out a few different places in Bristol, we were pointed in the direction of Inked Up, which I would recommend but I will warn you that if you're nervous they aren't the kind of guys that would try and soothe you. I think it cost about £25 including the price for the jewellery.

The Process: First they ask you if you need to blow your nose and then they give it a good clean to remove them bogies (ew), followed by sterilisation of the area. In your nose there's a sweet spot of skin below the cartilage and that is what gets pierced. Some places will clamp your nose to make it easier. However mine was done free hand. They pop a needle through the sweet spot and you're sort of sat there with this huge thing through your septum. They then pop in the jewellery. For mine they put in a curved barbell which doesn't stick out of your nose. They do this because it makes your piercing less prone to infection as it's not sticking out the nose collecting dirt.

Does it hurt? All piercings hurt to some extent because your having a big chunk of your skin pierced. Septum piercings do hurt a bit but I found it bearable and the pain only lasted a few moments whilst the actual incision was made. My nose did stay sore whilst it was healing so be try not to knock it too much. Just a heads up it makes it hard to kiss because of accidental nose hitting.

Aftercare: Looking after your septum piercing is pretty easy. In the morning and evening clean around the piercing with hot salty water (saline solution). It will get a bit crusty and if you're ill snot might build up on it, you've just got to keep an eye on it and clean it regularly. I did this for pretty much for all 8 weeks of the cleaning process. If you think it's getting a bit smelly or you develop a little lump, add a few drops of tea tree oil to the solution and do this for a few days and it will clear up.

When Can I Change the Jewellery? I'd recommend leaving it for the full 8 weeks before changing the jewellery as I wanted to make sure it was fully healed. Make sure you know what size jewellery you currently have and get your desired replacement in the same size, You can go to a piercing shop to get it changed but they will charge you. If you're doing it yourself I'd recommend having someone there to help. I needed someone to screw the balls onto my new horseshoe. If doing it yourself, make sure you soak the new jewellery in a saline solution first to clean it and also clean around the piercing. It can be difficult to put the new jewellery but don't panic and keep trying and I'm sure you'll do it.

And there we have it -  everything you need to know about getting your septum pierced!

Are you thinking about getting your septum pierced?

AW16 Fashion Forecast from Bristol Fashion Week

So I went to Bristol Fashion Week last week where they showcased this AW's trends as styled by some of the stores at the Mall Cribbs Causeway where the show was hosted. I tagged along  to the live blogging show to see what they put together and to see  what's going to be popular this season.

Military styled by M&S and Radley: What is AW without a military trend? Trench coats with gold detailed buttons and chunky boots just scream that winter is here. BFW topped it off with head tassles giving a nod to 18th/19th century military uniforms.

Sportslux styled by Jack Wills: My pictures of this show didn't come out too good as there was a lot of dancing but you can imagine this look as your typical Jack Wills style with thick gilets and comfy hoodies.

Oversized styled by Next: This was mainly a parade of fancy oversized coats which I love. I love a good boyfriend jacket or a smart oversized coat but the catwalk also saw puffer jackets that are guaranteed to keep your warm.

Pastels style by John Lewis and Pandora: Pastels always scream spring but they can definitely work for the winter too, paired with burgundy lips and a pair of heeled pointed boots. John Lewis nailed this look!

Lifestyle styled by Crew and Gap: This was a very chilled, every day sort of look but still with a touch of class you'd expect from Crew. It was mainly jeans and smart jacket for a preppy look.

Gothic styled by Coast: This was a trend that I clearly loved, I mean it was a whole lot of black outfits, what's not to love? Coast showed that gothic could be dressed up with textures such as lace and off the shoulder shapes.

Mismatch styled by Cath Kidston, Jack and Jones and Specsavers: Mismatch patterns is always a risky trend as it's easy to wrong but Cath Kidston, with all of the wonderful florals, obviously managed to get it right. They showed that the best way to make it work is pairing a patterned outfit with a loud raincoat, perfect for the downpours we are definitely going to get.

Fairytale styled by Karen Millen, Next and Accesorize: I really enjoyed this catwalk. It was filled with magical metallic outfits topped with Frida Kahlo inspired floral crowns, something that is usually a summer trend but definitely works in winter. Perhaps try a grungey deep red floral crown.

Animal by John Lewis and River Island: Animal print is something that I usually stay away from but this year I love it. Leopard print is particularly drawing my attention. I'm thinking boots and skirt in the print would be really sassy.

Opulence by M&S, Accesorize and Specsavers: I can tell this is going to be huge this season. I find opulence to be associated with textures such as leather, velvet and silk all in black, white, red, siler and gold. It makes an outfit look expensive but thanks to the high street, it doesn't have to injure your purse.

So they were what Bristol Fashion Week have forecast to be the top trends this season. What do you think?
