Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin Foundation

Maybelline Super Stay Better Skin Foundation - £8.99

Maybelline were recently giving away free samples of their new Super Stay Better Skin foundation which unfortunately I don't think they're still running it. All you had to do was answer a little questionnaire about your skin type and shade and, naturally I think they sent me the lightest shade (light beige). However I do think it's slightly too dark/peachy coloured for my pinky but pale skin. I find that the foundation isn't patchy which I'm always worried about but I don't really think that it gives a great coverage as I have a few red patches which are still quite visible. I also like that it's not too drying and no too oily - it's just the right combination for my skin and looks great with a loose powder over the top which just makes sure that it doesn't budge. I probably wont be purchasing this foundation as it was just slightly too dark for me but, if there is a right shade for you and you're not too desperate for a great deal of coverage then this foundation will be perfect for you and will give the appearance of better skin.

Summer Essentials: Beauty

Since June (and hopefully lots of warm weather) is on the horizon, I thought I would start a new set of posts where I share with you my summer essentials. Today I thought I would begin with essential beauty products that I tend to use to keep me going through the warm(ish) weather. I wont ramble on too much as I think I have mentioned most of these products on my blog before.

Firstly the everyone's summer staple when it comes to beauty should be, without a doubt, an SPF moisturiser such as the Garnier Moisture Match Illuminating Light Lotion with SPF 20, to keep your skin protected. This is important all year round but particularly in warmer months. I don't really like putting your everyday sun cream on my face and I often forget to put it on before my make up so SPF in a moisturiser is really handy and isn't a sticky. The moisturisers also aims to illuminate your skin which is always a plus for the summer. To help me with this a highlighter is also a must to emphasise your cheek bones and high points of your face, giving you a healthy looking summer glow. I use the Seventeen 3 in 1 Highlighter which is a liquid highlighter which gives a subtle glow/shine. When I'm not in the mood for the whole contouring your face sort of thing, and mainly when I'm in a girly mood, I like to use a little bit of blusher just to add a little pop of colour using the Topshop Cream Blusher in the shade 'head over heels'. I tend to not go overboard with blusher when it's warm I have a natural tendency to get really red cheeks (ginger problems) so too much blusher would just make me look like I'm about to burst or something. Moving on. In the summer I am more likely to opt for brighter shades of lipstick because y'know it's summer and everything is a bit brighter all round. My favourite brighter shades of lipsticks are Topshop 'Infrared', which is an orange-red shade that I to me is a bit sort of citrusy, and Bare Minerals Marvellous Moxie 'Risk it All' which is bright pink and works perfectly with pastels which is one of my favourite summer trends. Since I love pastels so much my go to nail polish is always the Barry M Nail Paint in Blueberry as it's a really bright pastel and just makes me feel really summery. Finally what is Summer without your favourite scent? Mine is Dot by Marc Jacobs because it's just so sweet smelling and kind of reminds me of the smell of parma violet sweets which is just uh-mazing.

What are your summer beauty essentials?

Stuck In My Ways

Shirt - Primark // Jumper - H&M // Leather Look/Waxed Trousers - M&S // Boots - Topshop All Sorts

Winter Outfit? Check. Winter Make Up? Check. It appears that I can't get out of my old A/W habits, wearing head to toe in dark colours. I can't really see that it's going change as we go into Summer properly as I am one of those people who is really cold at a slight gust of wind even when it's red hot. Rambling aside, I love these leather look trousers but don't really know what to wear them with. This will do for now.

Plaid & Grey

Dress - Primark (old) // Shirt - Primark (old) // Necklace - Primark // Boots - Topshop All Sorts

I have been pretty busy recently revising and what not so I have kind of just been shoving any random stuff together. When rummaging around my wardrobe I found my grey Primark skater dress which I bought so long ago but rarely ever wear so I shoved my shirt on over the top and a statement necklace and was good to go.

nspa Ultimate Cleansing Tonic

I purchased the nspa Ultimate Cleansing Tonic not  long ago for a a mere £1 and thought I would give it a try as I was pleased with the quality of their hydrating face mask. It is a two-in-one cleanser and toner in a separated formula, one being pink and the other clear. All you do is shake it up to mix the two together and apply to remove all traces of make up and other crap from your skin. As with other 2-in-1 cleansing toners I've used, I find it quite greasy when applied. When removing my make up I prefer them to leave my skin feeling refreshed but this doesn't really provide that sort of feeling. I therefore tend to use an additional toner just to remove any added greasiness and to make my skin feeling a bit more cleansed. Despite this I cannot fault it on it's ability to remove eye make up. Oh ma lawd it's good. Just splash some on a cotton pad and gently wipe your eyes with it and it literally just dissolves - no rubbing! It's odd because I find with products that say 'no need to scrub to remove eye make up' I do need to attack my eyes to get it off but this doesn't even claim to remove it easily but it does.

Overall it is extremely effective at removing every last inch of make up and impurities and the greasiness it leaves on your skin is easily solved by simply using an additional toner. I really recommend this product especially so that it's on offer at £1 in ASDA.

Crazy for Daisies

Daisy Crop Top - H&M // Mom Jeans - Charity Shop // Sandals - H&M

It seems I am developing a bit of a love for daisy print at the minute and I could not resist this top at only £3.99. As I usually do with crop tops, I just shoved it on with my classic high waisted mom jeans. I think I got a little bit too excited at it being over 10 degrees so I whacked on my sandals and my feet were purple for most of the day but who cares?

 Cardigan - Primark // T-shirt - Primark Men's // Jeans - Topshop Jonis // Sandals - H&M

I got another men's top from Primark. I think a white t-shirt is one of those wardrobe staple items and I have only just bought one. It is very rare that I ever buy anything in white as I am very clumsy and messy so am bound to make a mess of it which is just embarrassing. I just went for a casual look today and threw it on with my jeans and a cardigan. Ooh comfy.

Leather Shorts

Jumper - H&M // T-shirt (underneathe) - Urban Outfitters // Shorts - H&M // Rings - Primark // Boots - Topshop

I am back to my old self wearing head to toe in black but can you blame me? I love the new jumper and shorts that I picked up in H&M recently and especially love how well they go together. These shorts are going to be worn so much this Summer as they're something a bit different to your usual denim shorts.

Jumper - Urban Outfitters // Shorts - Vintage Levis // Boots - Topshop 'All Sorts'

Are you sick of these boots yet? As you can tell I'm not and I'm not sure if I ever will be. Today I paired them with shorts and a daisy print jumper from Urban Outfitters. I like to see it as a Spring alternative to a Christmas jumper as it's kind of ugly but so incredibly fabulous all  at the same time.

Review: Nailene Full Cover Nails

Nail Varnish used - Barry M Nail Paint in Red Wine
I've been meaning to blog about these nails since January but have only just got round to doing it but better late than never I supposed. I've never really worn false nails before and have never really found any in the colour/patter that I like but when I do I don't want to spend £6 on a pair of nails that I will wear once. But then I found these Nailene Full Cover Nails in 'square active' - a set of 200 plain nails. The price varies depending on where you look. They are cheapest in Bodycare (£4.99) and most expensive in Boots (around £8) but whatever the price they work about to be around 2-4p per nail which isn't bad at all and you can purchase them at your local supermarket such as Tesco and ASDA so they are really easy to find. Obviously not all of the nails will fit your nail size so you will have some left over but it means you can find the right nail to fit you and if they're too long you can simply cut or file the nail down. Personally I like to cut the thumb and index fingers into a different shape as they look far too square and unnatural but the rest seem to be fine. The nails are much thicker at the tip which is handy as it makes them a bit stronger to avoid them springing off all over the place as many other false nails seem to do, however due to my clumsiness I still manage to spring them off. All you do is either paint them before you glue them on or paint them once they are stuck down. Personally I skilfully blue tack them to a tooth pick and paint them before I glue them down to avoid getting nail varnish all over my fingers. All you do then is glue them down with the glue provided (be careful it dries very quickly) and hey presto your nails look fab.

They tend to last for a few days depending on how careful you are and how much glue you've put on. If they don't all pop off naturally don't even think about pulling them off because you will ruin your real nails and I'm guessing you could end up pulling your real nail off. All you need  is some acetone solution (I use the Superdrug Acetone Artificial Nail Remover similar here). It recommends that you hold your nail in the solution for 15 minutes but it also says that it may irritate or damage your skin. To avoid this I put my nail in the solution for about 1-2 minutes and then soak and cotton wool pad in the solution and hold it on my nail. It will slowly melt the nail and glue and if you keep checking it will eventually just fall off. Just a tip, when the solution says use a glass or metal bowl make sure you do so because I am presuming that it will melt right through a plastic bowl as it does with your nails.

I really love these nails and for the price you can't really go wrong.

Spring Make Up Look

Now that it's spring I like to try and update my make up look to make it more, well Spring like so I thought I would show you one of the looks I will be wearing this Spring.

I start off by moisturising with the Garnier Moisture Match Protect and Glow Illuminating Light Lotion with SPF 20 to protect my skin from the UV rays which particularly important in the warmer months. I then prepare my base with the Seventeen Flawless Poreless Primer to reduce the appearance of pores to provide a smoother finish to my look. I blend the Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation using the Topshop stippling brush followed by the Seventeen Wow! 3 way highlighter to emphasise my check bones  and add an instant glow which gives a dewy finish if that's the look you're going for. I then use the highly raved about Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to cover up eye bags, spots and and any red areas on my face and it works like a dream. If you're not going for a dewy look, use  the Collection Sheer Loose Powder to give a matte base, especially in the more oily areas of my face such as my forehead. After this I move on to contouring my cheekbones using the Sleek contour kit. You really don't need a lot of powder as it is really pigmented and can leave you looking a tad orange, especially if you're pale.

Next I move onto my eyes where I use the MUA Undress Me Too Pallette. Firstly I use the shade 'naked', which is a creamy colour to provide a base to my eye make up. I then use 'lavish' in the centre of my eye lid and 'obsessed' on the outer part and in the crease of my eye to add definition. I blend them all together with a blending brush and put of a sweep of 'lavish' under my bottom lashes. I find that my eyes look really bare without eyeliner so  I begin by filling in my waterline using the Seventeen Kohl Pencil and then add a classic cat eye flick with the Collection Extreme Felt Tip eyeliner which I think is a trend that will never die out. I find it hard to keep my flicks even but as long as they look kind of similar it's all good. Finally I smother my lashes with the Seventeen Superlash Mascara which makes your eyelashes look super duper long and fluttery.

Finally I complete the look with the Bare Minerals Marvellous Moxie Lipstick in the shade 'risk it all' which adds a bright pop of colour and in a perfect glossy spring shade. If you want this colour but don't really like the price I would recommend the MUA lipstick in shade 3 which is a similar colour but isn't as glossy and is a whole £15 cheaper.

What look are you going for this Spring?

Pastel Plaid

T-Shirt - Primark // Skirt - Topshop (sale) // Boots - Topshop 'All Sorts' // Socks - Topshop // Bracelet - Topshop

How Spring ready is this outfit? No cardigan, bare legs and colour! Ok so I cheated on the bare legs on, I am wearing clear tights but I can tell that slowly but surely, Spring is coming. I am very glad as it means I can finally whip out this pastel plaid skirt that I picked up in the Christmas sales for a mere £15 reduced from about £40. The fit is a bit weird but I adore it so much so expect to see it a lot this Spring/Summer as it's the easiest way to insert some well loved pastels into my wardrobe.
