Skincare Routine

In today's post I thought I would share with you the products that I use to keep my skin looking (relatively) good. In the evening when removing my make-up I use the Boots Botanics All Bright Gentle Cleansing Cream, followed by the Boots Botanics 100% Organic Rosewater Toning Spritz to ensure all traces of make-up are removed from the pores of my skin. To say that the cleanser and toner are a part of the Boots own brand and are pretty cheap (around £4 each) they are pretty good and don't leave my skin greasy and actually make my skin feel fresh and clear. To keep my skin moisturised I use the Garnier Moisture Match 'Start A Fresh Light Moisturising Cream' which I think just about everybody has used. I picked the blue one which is for normal to dry skin types. Now I have this really bad habit of not reading packaging and getting the wrong moisturisers for my skin type as I would class my skin as normal but I always get the products for dry skin which end up leaving it a tad greasy. However I do think that if you did actually have dry skin this moisturiser would be perfect. I am hoping to get the yellow one which is actually for normal skin and has SPF 20 to protect my skin from UV rays which are bad for your skin and always around despite the lack of sun. When in the bath I use the Garnier Pure Active 3-in-1 wash, scrub and mask to deep cleanse my skin and make it super super smooth. The product contains clay so is quite thick but it doesn't make your skin feel clogged and actually makes it feel quite the opposite and I have used it for quite a few years now and will always re-purchase it. I use the mask twice a week but when I don't use this mask I use the NSpa Replenishing Moisture Mask. It is a beautifully pretty baby pink colour and has an indescribable sweet smell which I love. You smooth it over your face and leave it for 20 minutes and then wipe it away and your face smells and feels amazing and super super soft.

Despite the products that I use, I do often get spots and no matter how many other products I've used for spot prone skin nothing seems to prevent it so I stick to the products I know and love.

What skin care products do you use? Have you tried any of these?

New In: Fashion Purchases

To cheer myself up this week and to spend some vouchers I decided to take a well deserved shopping trip and I managed to get myself a few new things that I thought I would share with you.

Hat - River Island £22.99 I jumped on the band wagon and got myself one of these beauties. I don't go anywhere nice enough to wear it but I adore the style so so much and I never want to take it off my head. It was £23 which is a lot more than I would normally pay for a hat but River Island had annoyed me already because I couldn't get the boots that I wanted so I just splurged and got the hat. I find something witchy about it - just call me Sabrina.

Kimono - H&M £5.99 - When I first clapped eyes on this I fell in love even though two women were laughing at how ridiculous it was and for a mere £6 I could not find a reason why I shouldn't buy it. I intend for it to be for the warmer months, if we ever get any, because it's just so floaty and perfect but still in my favourite colour.

Polar Neck Crop Jumpers - Primark £2 (sale) - I have been after a polar neck jumper or two for a while but whenever I find one I tell myself that I wont be winter for long and then when  I get home I realise how dumb I was for thinking that. Finally I found these for super duper cheap in Primark and they are so comfy. The fact that they're cropped means I will be able to wear them into the spring as well. However I did something really silly - I cut a hole in the grey one when cutting out the label but luckily I can sew - phew!

Oversized tee - Primark £2.50 (men's) - Primark logic is so sneaky. In the women's section they were selling oversized t-shirts that said 'I <3 my boyfriend's tee' on the label - so basically a women's oversized t-shirt that makes it look like it's your boyfriends - for £3. However if you just go to the men's section, the t-shirts that are so much nicer and will actually look properly like your boyfriend's tee were a whole 50p cheaper. I got this in a size L because they all looked quite small and I wanted it to be properly oversized and it's so soft and comfy , I can tell I will be living in it.

So these are just a few new additions to my wardrobe. I will be doing another post sharing the beauty products I bought too. Have you bought anything new recently?

What Inspires Me: History

Source
Today I am starting a new series on my blog where I will share with you things that inspire me. I know I already do inspiration posts of things that I have seen on Tumblr and Pinterest that inspire my style but this series is going to be more of a what inspires me as a person so not just in style but kind of what makes me, me. I know that sounds a tad cringe worthy but hey ho. The first instalment of the series is History.

Why it inspires me: Those of you who have followed my blog for a while, follow me on Twitter or know me in real life will know that I'm a total history geek/obsessive. I know that some people see History as a subject that is utterly pointless because 'it's in the past so who cares' but I personally don't understand how you can't care. History is everything and everywhere. It shapes the society we live in and the future we will live in. We wouldn't be anywhere without our history. It allows us to learn from our mistakes, whether it's on a small scale, with us learning from our relationships, to large scale, learning that mistreating people based on their race, religion, gender etc. can have negative/disastrous consequences.

My favourite quote by George Santayana Source
What inspires me: Although I might seem overly enthusiastic about history there are certain periods I prefer over others and there are some that I just cannot bear (Romans and Saxons I am looking at you). I personally prefer modern history, particularly the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries as they are the times when the most life changing events happened and the events that directly impacted us. For example they are the centuries where some of the most influential changes for the rights and equality of women took place. Now where would us girls be without that eh? We wouldn't  have time for blogging and aspiring for a career in fashion. Instead we may have been trapped in a world of domesticity. From a fashion perspective these were also the centuries with some of the most beautiful clothes and trends that not only inspire me but many of you - how many of you like vintage or vintage inspired clothes? Exactly - history has inspired you!

Source
Who inspires me: I think, with the vast amount of people to chose from, it is difficult to pick main figures of inspiration. The most inspiring speech I have ever heard/read, I came across when doing research for my history coursework. It was Lyndon B Johnson's 'We Shall Overcome' speech about the voting rights of African Americans from the 1960s and, although it was probably written to gain electoral votes, there is just something about it that made me go 'wow - what a guy'. In terms of style I am particularly inspired by the keen taste of the Romanovs and perhaps the 19th and 20th Century Russian royalty in general as they had the most beautiful buildings and gowns. In a more broader sense the style ranging from the 1920s to 1960s is truly inspirational - the rise of the red lip and the most beautiful hair.

On a more serious level I am well and truly inspired by a holocaust survivor that I heard speak as a part of the Lessons From Auschwitz project I have jabbered on about quite a bit. His name was Zigi Shipper and, considering everything he has been through, he had the best sense of humour. His view of the holocaust was extraordinary since when he was asked if he hated the Nazi regime for what they did, he said no and that you should never hate anybody because hate will get you nowhere. If that's not inspiring then I really don't know what is.

The Romanovs Source
I hope this post made sense to you and that you enjoyed something a bit different and gave you a bit of an insight into what inspires me. What inspires you? Are you as inspired by history as much as I am?

Sunday Post No. 2

How adorable is my little Nancy cat? Only a couple of posts for you this week, I have been super busy with revision and other important stuff (cough sleeping cough). Even though I have only posted a few things, I am trying to make a bit of variation on my blog so it's not just outfit post after boring outfit post. I am also attempting to take lots of pictures this week for me to schedule over the next few months for when I am super super busy with endless amounts of revision for my exams which are ridiculously close. Anyway here is what I have posted this week:

Jewellery Favourites - In this post I shared some of my favourite jewellery pieces including an adorable cat ring and lots of gold necklaces.

Winter Florals - Just a simple outfit post featuring my new a beautiful floral skirt from Urban Outfitters which cost me a fraction of the price of what it was supposed to be.

Keep your eyes peeled over the next week as there will be some very different posts to what I usually put up. What have you been blogging about this week?

Winter Florals

Cardigan - Primark // Crop Top - Primark // Skirt - Urban Outfitters // Boots - Doc Martens // Necklace - Tentative Decisions (via giveaway) // Lipstick - Vamp by Sleek

Hi guys, today I thought I would show you the other half of my bargain purchase from Urban Outfitters that I mentioned in a previous post - this beautiful floral skirt. I love how it's more of a dark and wintery floral rather than perhaps your traditional light and ditsy floral but I guess that's just UO all over. It was a mere £16 reduced from some ridiculous price. Today I kept it simple and teamed it with my polo-neck crop top from Primark that I will never stop loving, like ever. I can't wait to wear this skirt with lots of different things and by things I mean tops so keep your eyes peeled for more posts featuring this beaut of a skirt (and I will make you sick to death of it).

Jewellery Favourites

Jewellery is just one of those things that, in my opinion, is impossible not to love. It's the easiest way to make it look as though you have made an effort without actually trying hard so today I thought I would share my favourite jewellery pieces with you.

Necklaces: Quartz Necklace - Tentative Decisions (won in a giveaway) // Gold Chain - Topshop // Spiked Statement Necklace - Primark
Necklaces are my go to jewellery piece as they are easy just to shove on. I prefer statement necklaces, especially worn underneath collars, to draw attention to my outfit and 'jazz it up' lil bit (yep I cringed too).

Rings: Cat - Topshop // Plain Gold - H&M (in a set) // Cameo - DIY // Eagle - Vintage Fair // Silver - My Mom's
I have a weird relationship with rings, I love them but I almost always forget to wear them. When I do remember these are the ones I opt for, as well as classic midi-rings. Can we all just take a second to appreciate the cat? I saw it in the Topshop sale a while ago and contemplated buying the matching bracelet, necklace and earrings but I thought was a bit cat OTT even for me.

Earrings: Moons - Topshop (old) // Pentagram Studs - Topshop (in a set) // Metallic - Superdrug
As with rings, I always forget to wear earrings and when I do they get annoying because I don't wear them often enough. My absolute favourite earrings are the gold metallics from Superdrug of all places, they are just so perfect I cannot even describe how much I love them.

Bracelets: Pastel Skulls - Dorothy Perkins (old) // Cuff - Urban Outfitters
If I'm wearing a bracelet you know you have caught me on a day where I have had plenty of time to get ready and it means I am making an effort to look nice. I don't have many bracelets but out of those that I have these are my all time faves. I love wearing the cuff with my velvet kimono but the tassels always get caught around it and the skull bracelet goes perfectly with an all pastel outfit so I will be making a conscious effort to wear it more in Spring.

Sunday Post No. 1

How beautiful did the moon look the other day? So glad I was able to catch a picture.
I have decided to steer away from my usual week in photos posts because they seem to be becoming perhaps a bit boring and overdone but you can still find all of my pictures on instagram (amyleehaynes). In these new Sunday Posts I intend to tell you a bit about my week and what I've been up to and a round up of the posts that have been up on my blog that week.

This week has been so dull and was the last week before the holidays so obviously dragged on and on but finally, I am free (now imagine me dancing to this song)!! Ok so that is kind of a lie because I need to spend my week revising for mocks.

Here is what has been up on my blog this week:

Everyday Make Up Routine - In this post I share with you lovely ladies (and gents if there are any reading) what make up I use on a daily basis. Most bloggers make a video to accompany the post but I personally feel that you wouldn't appreciate seeing me make an arse of myself.

Pastel & Leather - Just an outfit post for you featuring some of my favourite items as the moment - my pastel jumper, leather skirt and heeled boots.

There we have it, my first Sunday post. What do you think? Do you like it or prefer the previous weekly round up style?

Pastel & Leather

Jumper - Primark // Shirt - H&M // Skirt - H&M // Boots - New Look

Happy Valentine's Day lovelies! I think pastels are the way to go on Valentine's Day, there's something about them that are a bit dreamy and romantic. Today I paired my jumper with my trusty faux leather skirt from H&M which I am sure you're sick to death of seeing but I am still 100% in love with it and will be for the foreseeable future. Recently I have been incredibly brave and have started wearing sheer look tights, yep in this weather. I just prefer the way they look rather than your bog standard black tights and I have been super good and haven't laddered them yet - what an achievement!

Today I celebrating Valentine's Day with my Mother. Who needs a boyfriend when you have cheesecake and wine? Are you doing anything special for Valentine's day?

Everyday Makeup Routine

Today I thought I would show you the make up I wear on a daily basis.

I start off using the Bourjois 123 Perfect foundation in the shade 52 , the lightest shade for my oh so pale skin. I love this foundation because it gives superbly even coverage but may be slightly too dark for my skin, despite it being the lightest shade (just seen that you can get a shade 51 - why didn't they have that in the shop!?). . I don't have a foundation brush that's works as well as I would like and I am not willing to pay stupid prices for one so for now I just use my fingers. I then use the blogger's fave - the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, again in the lightest shade, under my eyes and to cover any spots. I also use it to cover any red patches that I have such as on my jawline. To make my foundation and concealer stay put throughout the day, I use the Collection Sheer Loose Powder which I just sweep over my face with a classic powder brush. In order to emphasise my non-existent cheekbones, I use the Sleek contour kit. I swipe the brown powder underneath my cheekbones and the highlighter just above to give me a more sculptured face (hopefully). I love this product but being pale, I need to take more care with the amount of the brown powder I use as it is very pigmented so too much would mean orange face (ginger problems).

On my eyes I use the white eye shadow from the MUA eye shadow trio, in the shade smoke screen, to simply brighten my eyes. I do the classic cat-eye liner with the Collection Extreme Felt Tip Liner Pen and pencil my top waterline with the SEVENTEEN Kohl Liner. I know every blogger seems to do their eyes in a similar way but I just love the way that it looks. To top it off I sweep on some Maybelline Mega Plush Volume Express Mascara (what a mouthful to say). This mascara is pretty good but can be a bit clumpy at times but I am not that fussy when it comes to mascara.

What are your favourite make up products that you use everyday?

Week In Photos #44

Nancy // Visited my old school which is now just an abandoned building // Gem // Toilet selfies with Laura // Love my primark beanie // OOTD // Got £7 in vouchers for doing surveys at the opinion panel // OOTD // another outfit

Hi guys! My life is currently being taken over by revision and stressing over exams which are just getting scarily closer and closer. It also scares me that in just over a month I will be 18 and officially an adult, like properly. I would much prefer to just be 8 again when I used to think doing homework was the end of the world. All that aside though, next week is finally half term and I just cannot wait to go on a well deserved (in my opinion anyway) shopping trip to spend my left over Christmas vouchers and the vouchers I got from Opinion Panel for doing surveys about university. If you're going to uni/are at uni or have just left I recommend signing up to it.

Daisy Print

Jumper - Urban Outfitters // Jeans - Topshop Joni // Boots - New Look // Rings - H&M

Can we all appreciate how wonderful this jumper is? On my way back from my Dad's my sister and I took a cheeky trip to Urban Outfitters while we waited for the bus and oh boy I am glad we did. They had a buy one get one free sale. In Urban Outfitters. As you can imagine it was a dream come true. I picked up this lovely jumper which was £20 and a floral skirt for £16 meaning that I got both of them for £20. For those of you who go to UO a lot you will know that getting two items for £20 is bloody brilliant when normally for that price all you can get is a bra. Anyway enough rambling. I paired it with my Topshop Jonis and New Look boots as per usual.

I hope you're all having a wonderful week!

January Favourites

How quickly has January gone? I feel like it was only yesterday that I was stuffing my face with turkey and sausage rolls. Anyhow I thought I would share a few things that I have been loving this past month.

Boots, New Look £24.99 - My lovely Mother bought me these in December and they have been glued to my feet ever since. The heel gives me enough height to give me a couple of extra inches but are not too high and I love how chunky the heels are - less chance of falling over.

NSpa Replenishing Moisture Mask, ASDA £3 - I love this face mask so much from its pretty baby pink colour to its indescribable smell. It leaves my skin feeling silky silky smooth.

Forget-Me-Not  Fragrant Hand Balm, M&S - Again my lovely mother bought me this for Christmas. It's a florally smelling hand cream which leaves my hands feeling perfectly soft but too much makes my hands a bit greasy.

Haim, Days Are Gone - Back in December 2012/January 2013 I saw Haim featured in Company magazine and I remember thinking 'they look cool I will look for their CD' because I forget to look for music on YouTube because I can be a bit dim. Anyway for almost a year of searching I found it and it was only £5 and I am in love. The best songs (in my opinion of course) are falling, don't save me, my song 5 and let me go.

The 1975 - Along with Haim I have been listening to the 1975 non-stop this month. They have really unique voices that aren't what you'd class as 'conventionally good' but they are amazing - does that make any sense? I will probably be listening this CD for the whole of February....and March and probably the rest of 2014.

Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation - I have been looking for a new foundation for a while. I wanted one that has high coverage and is the correct shade for my paley pale skin. This may be the teeniest bit too dark for my skin but hey ho I still love it.

World Map Notebook, Waterstones - I have this weird thing for notebooks, I love buying them and writing in them for a little while and then buying new ones. My latest addition is this beautiful little notebook that has a map print covering. It came in a pack of three and they are a cute addition to my collection.

Samsung Galaxy Fame, £79.99 - I was in desperate need for a new phone as my other one was old and slow. I was lusting after a Samsung Galaxy S3 but there was no way I was dishing out that much for a phone. When looking at what I could get I realised there wasn't much difference between the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and the Galaxy Fame other than the price tag. I love it and have joined the Instagram and Snapchat crew (amyleehaynes). This only means that I am becoming one of those people who is constantly glued to my phone.

That's what I've been loving over the past month but what have you been loving?

Pink Beanie

Cardigan - Primark (my sister's) // Shirt - Primark // Jeans - Charity Shop // Boots - Doc Martens // Hat - Primark

Hey guys! I apparently have a new found love for beanies. I spotted this one in Primark last month on my way out but really couldn't be bothered to wait in the queue just for a hat. However my lovely sister bought it for me when she was in Primark - love ya sis.  I was super savvy and wore it with a matching pastel pink shirt which has such a cute little peter pan collar. I obviously wore my mom jeans as they are all I ever seem to wear - can you blame me?

I hope you're all having a wonderful week and don't get blown away/frostbite in this awful weather. Also some good news, I managed (somehow) to get into all of the universities I applied for - eeek!!!!
