DIY t-shirt pocket

In previous posts I have mentioned the strict (ish) dress code for my sixth form and I have been dreading the thought of wearing plain clothes so thought about adding a pocket to a plan top to 'jazz' it up a little bit. I thought I would share with you what I did to make it.
What you will need:

  •  Plain t-shirt of your choice
  • cardboard
  • piece of fabric that will be the pocket
  • Slow Club CD to keep you going (optional)
  • Ruler
  • Pins
  • Cottony thread stuff and needle
  • pencil

Step 1

Make a stencil for your pocket out of the cardboard using your ruler and pencil/pen/whatever. Make it as big or as small as you want. Make sure it's pocket shaped (unless you want like a heart or something) and symmetrical!
Step 2

Get your piece of fabric that you're making the pocket out of, I'm using a blue spotty piece that my mom got free with a quilting magazine (we bought it for the fabric hehe). You can use any that you like. Turn the fabric over and trace around your cardboard stencil onto the back of the fabric. Once you have done this go around the lines and draw border-like line around it - this will be the hem. Cut around the outline of the hem so it looks like the picture on the right
Step 3
Next fold your pocket on the hem lines and pin in place. *TIP* If you fold it and then iron it, it will help keep it in place by making like a crease where the fold is (I'm terrible at explaining things) - I didn't use this tip because I don't know how to work the iron (laugh all you like).

You should also hem the top of the pocket by doing the same thing.

Step 4
You should now sew it all down. You can either do this by hand or using a sewing machine. I did it by hand but I think a sewing machine will make the stitches neater and straighter.

Step 5
After you have hemmed the pocket you should pin it to your t-shirt wherever you like, I picked the left boob area where you'd find pockets on shirts.

Step 6
Now you just need to sew the pocket onto the t-shirt. However be careful because as you can see on mine, the t-shirt has gathered and looks a bit weird.

You can add stuff to it like buttons, lace (I've done this), ribbons etc. to make it look decorative.

More purchases.

Cardigan - Primark £12

Aztecy print jacket - Cow Vintage £28

Letter beads - The bead shop £1.50
So today I was bad and went to Manchester again and bought pretty things and now I am skint once again.
I don't own many decent/thick cardigans and figured that I will need some for sixth form because a lot of the time the heating isn't on. I also managed to find Cow Vintage for the first time and it was lovely and found this wonderful jacket. I didn't buy it right away because I didn't have much money but after walking around Affleck's with my sister and her friend's for an hour I had to go back and get it.
You will definitely be seeing both of them a lot in future outfit posts.

I'm going to try and customise a t-shirt later so hopefully there will be a post about that soon.

DIY Collar Tips

I really like the collar tips trend and have wanted some for a while but have no idea where to get them from as I don't really do internet shopping. I saw some on Friday in topshop for a whopping £8 and thought I can do that myself for much cheaper.

shirt - New Look £4.50 // Earrings used as collar tips - Topshop in a set

I bought these earrings in a set a while back and are some of the only pairs from the set that I've not worn because they are a bit big and kind of hang (don't know how to explain it). All you do is put them through the collar as you would put them in your ears. It leaves like a tiny hole which I hope does not get bigger with time!

Jumper - topshop // shorts- vintage levis // crystal necklace - tentative decisions via therobyndiaries giveaway // hamsa hand necklace - new look // rings (l-r) - topshop, new look, topshop, dorothy perkins // cross bracelet - DIY

Just to let you know, you can now follow me on pinterest using the link in the navigation bar at the top of the page!

It took me so long to take these pictures and as I have mentioned before, I need a tripod rather than balancing my camera on chests of drawers etc. I like this one but I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for me before I buy one.

Before I forget, has anybody else tried this popcorn? I bought it the other day and then realised that there's only like 100 calories in it and not a lot of salt and fat. It was amazing because I could eat the whole bag and not feel bad about it afterwards!

Manchester Haul

On Thursday I got my results back and I am so happy! I got 3 A*s (RE, English Language and Maths), 5 A's (History, English literature, Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and 2 B's (German which is getting re-marked and additional maths) and a D* in ICT. I really didn't expect these results and I'm so happy.

Anyway lets get back to the point of this post. Yesterday I went to Manchester to go shopping mainly for clothes for starting sixth form in 10 days. My sixth form is quite strict with the dress code which is what I guess you could class as 'office wear' i.e skirts must touch the knee, tops must not have pictures or words on, no low cut tops, no boots with skirts and worst of all NO DOC MARTENS. I was mortified when it specifically said no docs. That's what I live in and with the recent damage to my creepers, what is a girl to do? Shopping.

Cutest shoes in the world - Topshop £30

cute socks to wear with cute shoes - Topshop £3.50
Rings (are you supposed to wear these on the same finger?) - New Look £2.99
collar necklace - Primark £4
hamsa hand necklace - New Look £4.99
Dress - Primark £13
Trousers- primark £14 (I think)
Jumper - Topshop £26
cut out t-shirt - new look £6.99
my hand looks weird, I'm holding my jumper up
Trousers - H&M £14.99
I will wear all of these to sixth form apart from the jewellery because we are only allowed to wear 'subtle' jewellery.

I also got nominated for the liebster award so look out for that post soon!

The Bitterest Pill - The Jam

T-shirt - UO // skirt - charity shop // belt - primark // necklaces: (longest one) - matalan, crystal- tentative decisions via therobyndiaries giveaway, pentagram and crystal (don't know if you can see it) - urban angel and an antique shop, teacup and spoon (I don't think you can see it)- gift. // rings: cross- matalan, rabbit- UO, plain - topshop, triangle, dorothy perkins, black- topshop

I know the photos are a bit rubbishy, I have suddenly realised that I am in desperate need for a tripod to continue doing outfit posts. Today I should be tidying my room because, as you can tell from the photos, it's an absolute mess (the way that I like it).
Look out on Friday because I'm going shopping in Manchester (finally), mainly for sixth form clothes but for other things as well. Thursday is results day which I will include in the Friday haul post. Good luck to everyone and I hope you get the results you are hoping for! I'm so excited!

Also, I have had this song stuck in my head since last night.

Jewellery making

The other day, while I was in Chester, I ventured out with sore feet to go to Outfit and we stumbled upon a Hobby Craft. There is so much stuff in there that I love but as you may know it's not particularly cheap. I wanted to make something as I was feeling creative and was torn between making jewellery or making floral crowns. I ended up going to jewellery because it seemed cheaper. So I bought some earrings (45p in the Sale) enough to make 4 pairs, cross bead things, a small pot of beads and 5m of stretchy wire. It cost me about £10 (is that cheap?).

I got home and started some DIY! This is the outcome:

(sorry for the crappy phone picture) This is the only photo of the bracelet (right) and earrings (far left) I made for my sister
The earrings (I made one more pair but my sister is wearing them)
One of the bracelets I made. How cute are the fish on it?

What the earrings look like when on
I'm quite proud of what I've made to say it was a first attempt. My only issue is that I don't live near a hobby craft to go and get more supplies and I don't really buy things from on the internet.
